We are very pleased that Paul Shore has won the IED's Promotion of Design Award 2020 for "Watch It Made" a means to enthuse children into engineering through them designing and producing their own watch. This engineering experience programme is created as an means to give youngsters of 10 - 13 years age the pride of producing their own high quality engineering product. One that impresses their parents.
Children use miniature CNC lathes, mills and printing machines before assembling parts using kinematic tooling for eased assembly of small delicate watch parts. This precision engineering experience has been delivered at Cranfield University, the National Physical Laboratory and the Scottish Exhibition centre .
Acknowledgment to the whole Watch It Made team, especially Paul C, Enza, Anne, Allen, Florian, Armand, Sophie, Veronica and of course the + 600 school children. Funding appreciation is given to the Royal Academy of Engineering, Hexagon Metrology and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
